Canary Islands: a living lab for Circular Economy principles

Islands represent a very good context for the implementation of Circular Economy principles.  Indeed reorganizing economic activities in closed loops of energy and material will bring clear benefits in a system in which natural constraints are more pressing, as it is the case of islands: there, we cannot count on unlimited reservoirs of anything, either for extraction or for pollution. Therefore passing to a Circular Economy is not only facilitated but also even more urgent.

For this reason our organization, Consulta Europa, based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, is exploring the opportunities of implementing the Circular Economy principles in Canary Islands. Our objective is to identify key stakeholders which activities could benefit more from going circular and bring them together in a dynamic event that will take place in October 2016.

This Monday, from 11 am to 1 pm UTC, in our office at the Scientific and Technological Park of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria our team will welcome everybody that is interested in contributing in the organization of this event.

After the debate, we would be glad to share online with the OSCE community our conclusions about WHO are the key stakeholders for the implementation of the Circular Economy in Canary Islands and HOW to gather in advance their needs and expectations and to address them properly during a tailor-made event about “Canary Islands as a living lab for Circular Economy principles”.
